Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reconstitution Solution?+−
Reconstitution Solution is sterile water containing 0.9% w/v benzyl alcohol (CAS 100-51-6); water itself carries CAS number 7732-18-5. The benzyl alcohol is a bacteriostatic preservative that limits microbial growth once the vial has been punctured, so one vial serves several withdrawals. It is used to dissolve lyophilized peptides for in-vitro laboratory research.
Can it be used with every peptide?+−
It is a common diluent for lyophilized peptides, but not the right one for every compound or assay. Some protocols call for sterile water without a preservative, a buffer such as PBS, or dilute acetic acid. Benzyl alcohol is also avoided wherever it could interfere with the assay. Use the solvent the protocol specifies.
How is Reconstitution Solution used?+−
Withdraw the volume the protocol calls for through the stopper and add it slowly down the inside wall of the peptide vial. Swirl gently rather than shaking, so the powder dissolves without foaming. The volume added sets the concentration, and the Reconstitution Calculator works out the volume for a target concentration. Try the Reconstitution Calculator →
How should Reconstitution Solution be stored?+−
Store unopened vials at room temperature, 20–25°C (68–77°F), away from heat and direct light. Once a vial has been punctured, mark the date on it: opened vials are commonly discarded 28 days after the first puncture.
How is Reconstitution Solution shipped?+−
It ships from US stock with full tracking. Orders confirmed before 12pm EST ship the same business day, and later orders ship the next business day, Monday to Friday.
Is Reconstitution Solution for human use?+−
No. It is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only and must not be administered to humans or animals. It is not a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
