What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide made of 15 amino acids. Its sequence matches part of a compound reported in human gastric juice, which is where the name Body Protection Compound comes from. It is also known as PL-14736 and Bepecin. The earliest published research on it, from 1994, looked at the stomach and gut lining in rats. Later work has studied it mainly in rats again, looking at how tendon, ligament and muscle injuries heal, and in tendon cells grown in the laboratory. A 2025 systematic review in orthopaedic sports medicine collected 36 studies of it published between 1993 and 2024.
