What is Humanin?
Humanin is a chain of 24 amino acids. It is unusual in where it comes from: the instructions for making it sit inside the DNA of the mitochondria, the small compartments that supply a cell with energy, in a stretch that was not thought to code for anything. It was found in 1998 by screening a gene library made from a brain region affected by protein aggregation. Most of the published work is in cells rather than animals. Colivelin, sold separately here, contains a modified piece of this chain joined to a second one, and is a different substance.

Native humanin, the 24-residue sequence MAPRGFSCLLLLTSEIDLPVKRRA. A large part of the published literature uses S14G-humanin, written HNG, or other analogues that are reported as more potent, and some papers describe an analogue without naming it. Where a finding on the Published Research tab comes from an analogue rather than from the native peptide, the tab says so.
Is Humanin the same as Colivelin?+−
No. Colivelin, supplied separately, carries a humanin-derived sequence joined to a second sequence from a different protein, and the humanin portion is a modified variant rather than the native peptide. It is a distinct compound with its own literature. Findings for one are not findings for the other.
