What is Colivelin?

Colivelin is a made-up chain, built by joining two shorter chains that came from different places. One end is a piece called ADNF, short for activity-dependent neurotrophic factor. The other is a shortened and altered version of humanin, a natural peptide whose instructions sit in the DNA of the mitochondria. That altered version is 17 links long where humanin itself is 24, and it carries changes at two positions, so it is not the same substance as the humanin sold separately here. Colivelin was built in a Japanese laboratory to be more potent than either half.

Is Colivelin the same as Humanin?+

No, and the relationship runs through a third molecule. Colivelin is activity-dependent neurotrophic factor fused to AGA-(C8R)HNG17, which is a 17-residue derivative of humanin carrying substitutions. Humanin itself, supplied separately, is the native 24-residue peptide. All three are distinct compounds, and a result for one is not a result for the others.

Is Colivelin more potent than its components?+

In the study that built it, Colivelin suppressed cell death at 100 femtomolar while the humanin-derived component alone required 10 picomolar in the same experiment. In a separate mouse study, the ADNF component alone improved motor performance without significantly prolonging survival, while Colivelin did both.
