What is Dihexa?
Dihexa is a small synthetic molecule built from two amino acids with a fatty chain added at one end and a second chain at the other, designed so that it survives in the body and can cross into the brain. Its starting point was angiotensin IV, a short natural chain, and it is a different substance from that with its own separate research. Three of the most cited papers on this compound were retracted by the journal that published them in April 2025, including the papers behind the explanation of how it was thought to work. The findings below come from one study that has not been retracted, though that study carries its own unresolved expression of concern, and a more recent independent study found no effect at all in the model it tested.

Is it true that research on Dihexa has been retracted?+−
Yes, in part. Three papers in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics were retracted in April 2025, and each also carries an expression of concern. Between them they are the source of the hepatocyte growth factor and c-Met mechanism that this compound is usually described by, and that mechanism has not been independently replicated. A separate 2013 paper describing the compound's development has not been retracted, but it carries its own expression of concern, issued in 2021, from the same journal. Is research on angiotensin IV research on Dihexa?+−
No. Angiotensin IV is a natural six-residue peptide with its own literature. Dihexa was designed from a three-residue fragment of one of its analogues, with a fatty acid group added at one end and an amide extension at the other, and it is a different molecule. No angiotensin IV finding appears on this page.
