What is Thymulin?

Thymulin is a chain of nine amino acids first isolated from the thymus gland and originally called serum thymic factor. It only works when it is joined to a zinc atom. The chain on its own and the chain with zinc attached are, for practical purposes, two different things, and the name thymulin was coined for the version with zinc. The weight and chemical formula listed on this page describe the chain by itself, with no zinc in it, so anyone working with this material needs to know where the zinc is coming from.

Thymulin Research & Reference

What Thymulin does in published studies, and how to work with it in the laboratory, are covered in full on two dedicated pages rather than summarised here, so neither the evidence nor the handling detail is cut short.

The safety data sheet for Thymulin is below as a PDF, in the 16-section GHS format covering identification, hazards, handling, storage and disposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thymulin independently tested for purity?+

Yes. Every batch of Thymulin is tested by an independent third-party laboratory using HPLC and MS-UPLC, confirming purity and mass identity before the batch is released. Pure Peptides does not test its own material.

What does "Research Use Only" mean?+

It means Thymulin is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research and for no other purpose, and must not be administered to humans or animals. Thymulin is legal to purchase in the United States for in vitro and non-clinical laboratory research. It carries no FDA approval or therapeutic indication for human use. Thymulin is not a scheduled substance under the Controlled Substances Act. Sold strictly for qualified research use, not human or veterinary administration.

How is Thymulin shipped and stored?+

Thymulin ships from US stock with cold-chain packaging and full tracking; orders placed before noon EST on business days are typically dispatched the same business day. On arrival, store the lyophilized powder at -20°C or below, dry and protected from light.

Does this material contain zinc?+

No. The molecular formula on this page, C33H54N12O15, is the peptide chain alone and contains no zinc atom. Thymulin is biologically active as a zinc complex with one zinc ion bound per peptide chain, and the study that named the compound reported the zinc-free chain as inactive. Anyone working with this material should account for that.

Is Thymulin the same as Thymalin or Thymosin Alpha-1?+

No. All three are separate. Thymulin is a defined nine-amino-acid peptide that is only active as a zinc complex. Thymosin Alpha-1 is a defined 28-amino-acid peptide with an acetylated N-terminus. Thymalin is neither of those; it is a polypeptide extract with no single structure. Research on any one of the three says nothing about the other two.
