What is Epithalon?
Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on a substance from the pineal gland. It is studied in cell and animal research for its effects on telomerase (an enzyme involved in cell aging) and related signaling.
- A four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on a pineal-gland substance
- Studied in cell research for its effects on telomerase activity and telomere length
- Investigated in rodent research for its effects on immune signaling, reproduction and aging
- Also studied for its effects on body-clock (circadian) and melatonin signaling
For research use only. Not approved for human therapeutic use.
Epithalon (CAS 307297-39-8), also known as Epitalon or Epithalone, is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the molecular formula C14H22N4O9 and a molecular weight of 390.35 g/mol. Defined by the amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, Epithalon was synthesised based on the amino acid composition of Epithalamin, a polypeptide preparation originally derived from bovine pineal tissue. Developed at the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, it belongs to a class of short synthetic peptides investigated as bioregulators in the Russian scientific literature. Produced via solid-phase peptide synthesis, Epithalon is associated with telomerase-related signalling and pineal gland neuroendocrine pathways in preclinical gerontology research.
Epithalon has been extensively investigated as a tetrapeptide bioregulator in preclinical ageing research. Published in vitro studies have examined its interaction with telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression in human somatic cell preparations, documenting Epithalon-mediated induction of telomerase activity and telomere elongation in human somatic cell preparations and characterising the Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly tetrapeptide as a telomerase-activating signal in ageing cell culture models [1]. In vivo rodent studies have investigated Epithalon in long-term ageing protocols, with published research examining spontaneous tumour incidence in aged animal cohorts and documenting reduced carcinogenesis endpoints across extended observation periods in aged rodent preparations, with researchers from the Khavinson laboratory and collaborators characterising gerontological outcomes following Epithalon administration in controlled preclinical ageing models [2], making Epithalon a key reference compound in peptide bioregulator research examining telomerase-related signalling and gerontological endpoints in preclinical ageing models.
Epithalon is produced to research-grade standards and independently verified by third-party HPLC and MS-UPLC analysis before dispatch. Vials are vacuum sealed and stored in a temperature controlled, monitored cold storage system. Certificates of Analysis are available on request.
Sold strictly for in vitro research purposes only. Not for human consumption. Intended for use by qualified researchers in laboratory settings only.
