What is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a chain of five amino acids made in a laboratory. It came out of a Danish drug company program in the 1990s that was searching for a compound which would prompt growth hormone release without stirring up other hormones at the same time. It works on the same receptor the body's hunger hormone uses, which is a different receptor from the one sermorelin and tesamorelin use. It has been tested in rat pituitary cells, in rats and in pigs.

Is Ipamorelin really selective for growth hormone?+

In conscious swine, GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 both raised ACTH and cortisol, while ipamorelin did not raise them above the levels seen after GHRH stimulation. That held at doses more than a hundred-fold above the amount needed for growth hormone release. The comparison is against GHRH rather than against no treatment, and the work comes from the group that developed the compound. No independent laboratory has replicated it in the sources on this page.
