What is Thymosin Beta-4?
Thymosin Beta-4 is a chain of 43 amino acids. It is found in almost every cell in the body and was first described in thymus tissue. The material sold here is made in the laboratory. It carries a small chemical cap at one end, matching the natural form. A seven-amino-acid stretch inside it, LKKTETQ, is sold separately as TB-500. TB-500 is that short piece. This is the whole peptide. Research on it has centered on the scaffolding inside cells, on the heart after injury, and on the surface of the eye and skin.
Technical Specs
Labeled quantity is net peptide content, not gross salt weight.
Thymosin Beta-4 Research & Reference
What Thymosin Beta-4 does in published studies, and how to work with it in the laboratory, are covered in full on two dedicated pages rather than summarised here, so neither the evidence nor the handling detail is cut short.
Certificates of Analysis
Every batch is tested by an independent laboratory before release. The certificate covering this batch of Thymosin Beta-4, and its safety data sheet, are below as PDFs, so the figures on this page can be checked against the source.
TB-500 or Thymosin Beta-4: which do you need?
These are two different molecules, and the names are often used interchangeably elsewhere. They are not interchangeable here.
TB-500 is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide, Ac-LKKTETQ (889.02 g/mol, CAS 885340-08-9). It corresponds to residues 17–23 of Thymosin Beta-4 (the actin-binding region) and is supplied as that fragment alone.
Thymosin Beta-4 is the full-length 43-amino-acid peptide (4,963.44 g/mol, CAS 77591-33-4), supplied intact.
Most of the published repair-biology literature was generated using the full-length peptide. Work specifically on the isolated actin-binding fragment is a smaller body of research. If you are reproducing a published protocol, check which of the two the paper used: the two are not always distinguished in the literature either.
Each is supplied with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis stating the molecular weight and CAS for the material in the vial.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Thymosin Beta-4 independently tested for purity?+−
Yes. Every batch of Thymosin Beta-4 is tested by an independent third-party laboratory using HPLC and MS-UPLC, confirming purity and mass identity before the batch is released. Pure Peptides does not test its own material.
Can I see the Certificate of Analysis before buying?+−
Yes. The Certificate of Analysis for the batch currently in stock can be viewed and downloaded directly on this page, before you place an order. Each certificate states the batch number, the measured purity, and the date of analysis, and can be verified independently with the issuing laboratory using the report number it carries.
What does "Research Use Only" mean?+−
It means Thymosin Beta-4 is supplied for in-vitro laboratory research and for no other purpose, and must not be administered to humans or animals. Thymosin Beta-4 is legal to purchase in the United States for in vitro and non-clinical laboratory research. It has no FDA approval and no approved human use. Thymosin Beta-4 is not a scheduled substance under the Controlled Substances Act. Sold strictly for qualified research use, not human or veterinary administration.
How is Thymosin Beta-4 shipped and stored?+−
Thymosin Beta-4 ships from US stock with cold-chain packaging and full tracking; orders placed before noon EST on business days are typically dispatched the same business day. On arrival, store the lyophilized powder at -20°C or below, dry and protected from light.
How is Thymosin Beta-4 related to TB-500?+−
TB-500 is a seven-residue piece of this peptide. The sequence LKKTETQ sits inside Thymosin Beta-4 at positions 17 to 23, and TB-500 is that stretch on its own. This product is the whole 43-residue peptide. Research on one is not research on the other, and the Published Research tab for each product cites only work done on that molecule.
What has been published on Thymosin Beta-4 in people?+−
Two phase 1 studies in healthy volunteers reported acceptable tolerability without measuring benefit. A randomized trial in 96 people after a heart attack reported a significant reduction in infarcted area in the subgroup treated earliest, and no significant difference across the whole trial. Two phase 2 studies followed, one in nine people with severe dry eye and one in 73 with venous leg ulcers. The venous ulcer trial reported safety comparable to placebo and a hedged efficacy conclusion, that one of the tested concentrations may have potential to accelerate healing. The Published Research tab cites all of them.
